Amanda's Story (14 April 2008)
Dinnall Property Services
Amanda Dinnall founded Dinnall Property Services (DPS) in 2005 to offer services in property location and acquisition. One year later, she opened up a division specialising in overseas property. Dinnall said, `Our business plans anticipated us opening up to six offices throughout the UK. If things continue to go the way they are now, we will have to find ourselves new premises to accommodate growth and expansion.” DPS offers comprehensive property relocation and finding service for private and corporate clients looking to move or invest in property, both residential and commercial, across the UK. Clients include start-up businesses, ensuring they get it right first time. Dinnalls wide knowledge of the property industry as led DPS in to offering others services to meet client’s needs as the demand was evident, while DPS also provides corporate property management services this as now led DPS to grow considerably meeting the demands of her clients. Dinnall had a flair for enterprise soon after leaving school and a passion for creativity which resulted in her working as a self-employed hair care and fashion specialist at aged 19. Though unqualified, she yielded the call of the property market and embarked on a career in the industry. After three years of rejection, she was recruited as a sales negotiator with an estate agency. She then trained as a residential and property valuer and moved on to work for a property development firm and finally completed a Construction Management Degree which fast-tracked her career in the industry which is still dominated by white, middle-aged men. “I built my business on passion drive and determination and experience of working in different professional fields where I developed excellent communication skills. I learnt that having the ability to listen, to understand the content and context of what is being said, responding diplomatically to win the respect and confidence of an audience. These skills were keys to my success with the individuals and companies I worked with. These skills now underpin my work with DPS clients”. Dinnall’s initial challenges were awesome; namely, negotiating full-time staff employment, undertaking part-time studies, planning the launch of DPS and raising her year-10 old son. “Sometimes it was very hard to juggle my job with all the other responsibilities but what was always in the back of my mind- (ambition without knowledge is like a boat on dry land.) The challenges one faced where mealy a test of one self’s strength, belief and ability the environment I work in is still dominated by white, middle-aged men I found myself having to prove to contemporaries, which where all men that I have what it takes, that only gave me more determination to succeed and to prove to myself I have what it takes. The environment you choose to work in may not always support your growth because for you to move on means you leave people behind it also means that you prove what they claim to be impossible is defiantly possible” Amanda encouraged young entrepreneurs to use their passion and ability to secure gains in the property market. `I wasn’t sure if I would really make it to this position, but you cannot afford to be discouraged because anything worthwhile is hard to achieve.
